Concord, N.C. — Rick Hendrick announced today that Connor Zilisch will officially take over the No. 48 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports beginning in 2028, following Alex Bowman’s retirement.
Hendrick Motorsports confirmed that Zilisch has signed a multiyear contract, although specific details regarding the expiration of the agreement were not disclosed. Hendrick expressed his confidence in the young driver, saying, “His talent behind the wheel is exceptional, but I’m even more impressed by the person he is.”
Zilisch emerged as one of NASCAR’s brightest young stars during the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season with JR Motorsports, earning 10 victories despite battling an injury during the season. His performance quickly established him as one of the sport’s most highly regarded prospects.
His rookie campaign in the NASCAR Cup Series has presented a different challenge, but the opportunity to join Hendrick Motorsports provides Zilisch with a chance to continue developing at the highest level of the sport. The move will place him within one of NASCAR’s most successful and recognizable organizations, alongside an experienced group of drivers and team personnel.
“This is one of those moments you dream about as a kid,” Zilisch said of the announcement. He added that Hendrick Motorsports “has always represented the standard of the sport.”
Ally will also continue its relationship with Hendrick Motorsports, remaining the primary sponsor of the No. 48 Chevrolet. The 2028 season will mark the 10th year of Ally’s partnership with Hendrick Motorsports as a full-season primary sponsor, with the company continuing its presence on Zilisch’s car.
With the transition now set for 2028, Zilisch will have the opportunity to build on his early Cup Series experience while preparing to take over one of NASCAR’s most recognizable numbers.
