HAMPTON, G.A. – Haas Factory Team driver Sam Mayer secured the pole for the Bennett Transportation and Logistics 250 at EchoPark Speedway, Friday, February 20 for the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series. Mayer was not the fastest in round one, but improved his time when it mattered most running a blistering time of 31.804.
Teammate Sheldon Creed was second after the first round, but after his second lap of the evening, creed timed in fourth preventing the team's opportunity of its first 1-2 start. Instead, it was JR Motorsport Carson Kvapil who will start 2nd in the race tomorrow.
Similar to the weekend prior, Chevy numbers dominated the speed charts again as it took 7 of the top 10 starting spot for the race.
The biggest surprise though had to be the qualifying efforts out of Richard Childress Racing. Going into the weekend many thought both team drivers Jesse Love and Austin Hill were favorites for qualifying on pole. However, with the worry of wear and handling changing year after year at EchoPark Speedway, the team opted to go with a different approach of having a more downforce oriented car as compared to having one with raw speed
Love was able to make the second round, but timed in 10th overall, meanwhile Hill clocked in 20th. It is an unusual situation for the Georgia native as he usually spends majority of the race towards the front of the pack. He will have to pass many cars if he wants to get to the front.
Joe Gibbs Racing's Taylor Gray scored the highest starting spot for Joe Gibbs Racing, as three of its four cars qualified in the top ten. Only Brandon Jones missed the second round as he timed in at the 15th starting position.
As for NASCAR Cup Series drivers in the field, Ross Chastain driving for Young's Motorsports will start 30th, while Cody Ware of Barrett-Cope Racing will start 36th. This weekend for Ware is special as when the Cup Series takes the green flag Sunday, it will mark nearly 10 seasons since wears debut at EchoPark Speedway dating back to the 2017 season.
Mike Harmon Racing's Dawson Cram was the lone driver to DNQ from the 38 car field.
