Yes, NBA and NHL free agency have been wild the last few days. But INDYCAR silly season just said “hold my milk.”

One of the longest tenured athletes in American professional sports will move on from a quarter century partnership at season’s end.

Six-time NTT INDYCAR Series champion Scott Dixon, the second winningest driver in series history, will not return to Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2027 season, ending a 25-year pairing with the program. Multiple sources report that he will be joining Arrow-McLaren for his next venture.

Dixon, now 46 years-old, first joined CGR ahead of the 2002 Indianapolis 500 after his previous organization, PWR Championship Racing, disbanded in the middle of the season. To put his career into perspective, Dixon has driven for Chip Ganassi Racing longer than any other current full-time INDYCAR or NASCAR driver has even raced in their respective top series.

During his tenure, the New Zealand native became one of the most decorated drivers in American open wheel racing history, scoring 68 victories, including the 2008 Indianapolis 500. Dixon also competed under the Ganassi banner in IMSA and other endurance racing ventures, notably winning the 24 Hours of Daytona with the organization in 2006.

In a statement, Chip Ganassi said in part “Scott has meant so much to CGR over the past 24 years. Together we’ve shared championships, many victories, and countless moments that have helped define this organization. Because of everything we’ve accomplished together, and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing, and we made him a multi-year offer to do just that. We respect that he’s chosen a different path and wish nothing but continued success.”

According to FOX Sports’ Will Buxton, Dixon’s move to Arrow-McLaren is all but a lock. “The report is real. The news is undeniably huge,” INDYCAR’s play-by-play voice said in an X post Wednesday. “Everything I’ve heard over the past two weeks and in particular the last few days confirms to me that Dixon to McLaren is 100% a done deal.”

Stay tuned to Motorsports Today for all of the latest coverage of INDYCAR free agency, which is expected to heat up in the coming days with this seismic move.
