After months of speculation, the second half of the 2027 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule was released on Friday. An international trip to Barcelona and the removal of Nashville Superspeedway and Washington D.C. highlight the changes.
For the first time in 13 years, IndyCar will race outside North America with a multi-year agreement with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. It’ll mark the homecoming for five-time champion Alex Palou, as the series heads to Spain for the first time on Sunday, July 18.
“I’m so excited to be part of INDYCAR’s first race in Barcelona,” Palou said in an Oct. 23 press release. “It is an amazing opportunity, and it means so much to me to have a race at home in Barcelona; it’s hard to put into words. I know the fans are going to love it.”
The race takes the usual spot at Nashville Superspeedway, as the facility is off the schedule for the first time in three years, with the series not visiting Nashville for the first time in six years.
Another change is the series going without a race around the Streets of Washington, D.C. In what was a late addition last year, the race celebrated the United States of America’s 250th birthday in the Freedom 250. After significant success, rumors about a possible return were put to rest with the release of the schedule.
An Oct. 23 press release confirming the event's 2027 removal says it will remain a one-off.
“The summer’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix was an incredible event that was always intended to be a one-in-a-lifetime celebration of our country’s 250th birthday. The release of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule confirms the race will not return to Washington, D.C. next season.”
As for the rest of the schedule, it will take its typical look. Laguna Seca Weathertech Raceway will remain as the season finale on Sept. 5. The Milwaukee Mile keeps its doubleheader for the second straight year on Aug. 28 and 29.
World Wide Technology Raceway keeps its Sunday night slot on June 13 and kicks off a packed summer slate. Road America and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 27 and July 4 will lead into Barcelona.
Portland International Raceway on Aug 1 and the Streets of Markham on Aug. 15 are the first two races back in North America after Spain.
