Christopher Bell led the NASCAR Cup Series field to green Sunday afternoon for the Pennzoil 400, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Joining him on the front row was his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Denny Hamlin.
Stage 1 went caution-free the entire way with Christopher Bell capturing the stage win after going back and forth with the No. 11 of Denny Hamlin, who ultimately fell back a few spots and finished 3rd in the opening stage. Meanwhile, both the No. 11 and No. 54 were issued speeding penalties and were sent to the back of the field to start Stage 2.
William Byron secured the win in Stage 2 after a late surge on the closing laps. Byron’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson also earned valuable stage points after finishing second.
The final stage settled into a long green-flag run with Denny Hamlin leading the field. However, the No. 9 of Chase Elliott made things interesting with 6 to go, trailing just 0.70 seconds behind Hamlin’s Toyota.
Denny Hamlin would pick up his first win of the season at a place he had just won last November. This is Denny’s 61st career win, passing Kevin Harvick for 10th most wins All-time, and being just 2 wins away from tying Kyle Busch.
